Today’s post is quite different from my usual posts. Join me today in celebrating the big 50th birthday of Joanne from Serendipitous Stitching.
Jo’s corner of the web is one of the first ones I stumbled upon when I started blogging. I was immediately blown away by the sheer variety of her projects. To this day I am in awe of how she manages to get so much done and of how supportive and encouraging she is. Wishing you a very, very happy birthday dear Jo! May your needles never snap, your threads never tangle and your fabric never fray. God bless!
This year Jo has come up with a really fun way of celebrating her landmark year. She has rallied together a group of her online friends and assigned each one a year and a life event associated with that year.
And what year have I been assigned?
In 1996 Jo turned 30. Jo’s 30th Birthday was celebrated with her work colleagues decorating her desk with over-large sweet boxes they had made and then going to see a band in the evening.
In the same year Jo’s Grandparents celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with a family party and a telegram from the Queen. Jo stitched them a sampler showing all the different gifts associated with each anniversary. When they passed away, Jo inherited the sampler and still finds it useful to refer to each year!
Meanwhile, in 1996 I was in school and in that particular year I had the most terrifying art teacher of all time. The kind whose clacking heels on the tile floor signaled her arrival and sent the class scurrying to their seats, pretending to be on their best behavior. Incorrect work or accidentally forgotten homework assignments were swiftly and mercilessly punished. But at the end of that year, I had a beautiful raffiar thread tissue box cover to show for all my efforts. That tissue box cover is still in use today. Hard work and abject terror pays off I suppose?
Jo, you are lucky indeed to be surrounded by the love of family and friends on your special day and I am so glad to be a part of your celebrations.
Here is a small virtual birthday present from me on your special day.
Promise Me by Lizzie Kate
Hope you have a wonderful year ahead Jo! Stay blessed!
Thank you so much dear Lynne! I am so sorry for the delay is responding but I just got back yesterday and am slowly catching up with all I have missed. I am so looking forward to browsing through the Blog Hop posts too. Can’t wait! 🙂
Thank you so much Noni dear! So sorry I took so long to reply. I was out of town and only got back yesterday. Have a lot of catching up to do on the blogosphere 🙂
Hehe… she was quite scary at the time but in hindsight she probably needed to be tough to keep us little monkeys in line 😉 I love that saying too! It is definitely one of my most meaningful finishes 🙂
Thanks for taking part in the Birthday Blog Hop and for your lovely compliments.
Your art teacher sounds terrifying! We had one who used to paint her shoes to match her outfits so you could see layers of different coloured paint on the heels where they scuffed!
Love the sampler you’ve chosen for me. I am a big fan of words and lettering on designs and this is a great sentiment too.
Belated birthday wished Jo! I just got back yesterday and am only now catching up on all I have missed. I do hope you had a wonderful birthday and that you were spoilt rotten by your friends and family 🙂
You had me chuckling at your teacher with the painted shoes. Have to give her points for creativity 😉
Nice post 🙂
