Greetings to my wonderful readers! I have been neglecting my blog for an unforgivable amount of time as I chased down one of my most elusive dreams. However, it has heartened me to see that even when I was MIA, there were a few faithful friends who dropped by to like and comment on my posts. Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts.
I am now back on my home turf and the euphoria of my holiday has yet to dissipate. For those of you who may not have read my last post, I just spent 8 blissful days touring Europe. The first leg was a solo trip for 5 days and the second leg was a radically different trip with my gal pals. I have now checked off two items from my bucket list – A solo international trip and a girls only international trip. Both of these have been long-term dreams and have come close to fruition many times but for some reason or the other never seemed to work out… until now.
Ever since I got back from my vacation, people have been asking me how it went. And in all honesty, I simply don’t have the words to express how I feel. I am immensely grateful to have had this opportunity. It still seems surreal somehow. I am in a state of wonder that this ACTUALLY happened. How is it that I have been fortunate enough to have had this happen to ME?
Already there is a sense of nostalgia in the knowledge that such a trip will, in all probability, never happen again. It took a monumental amount of dreaming and planning to make this a reality and every cell of my being sings with gratitude that this was made possible. I can confidently say that the bar has been set so high with this trip that repeating this feat will be a challenge!
I am still trying to collect my thoughts and formulate coherent sentences that can convey to another human being the true extent of my feelings about this short jaunt. But until I can wrap my mind around those wispy sentences that are just beyond my reach, I will leave you with a promise that I will be back soon with more details…
Until then,
Having a tour to Europe is in my wish list. I hope, I’ll one day

Welcome back. You sound completely satisfied and that’s a good thing. It’s been a long time that I did solo travel. For quite a while it’s been with my troop and even once or twice I went on a short overnight trip, my phone was ringing off the hook with mommy this and mommy that 😉 Good to see you in here.

Thank you so much Jacqui for your warm comment :*
I loved the experience of traveling on my own although I will admit it is not for everyone 🙂 I’m so glad you have had the opportunity to try it yourself. How did you find the experience? And where did you go? Sorry for barraging you with questions. It’s just that I love hearing about other people’s travel adventures 🙂
Hehe… you had me chuckling at the thought of your constantly ringing phone with demands of mommy this and mommy that 😀 I can imagine it would be quite challenging managing a getaway when there are little ones in the picture… 🙂

When I was traveling alone a lot was work related with my previous jobs at EU/ French Embassy and British American Tobacco. Then on vacation, I would select which part of Europe to visit. From Switzerland, France,UK, Holland, Belgium, Spain/Madrid, Manchester, Luxembourg, Prague….It was fun but it doesn’t really fit into my present lifestyle, though I might be traveling alone soon on a short wedding trip.

That sounds like so much fun! You are blessed that you had a job that took you to such beautiful places 🙂 Although I understand that when you’re traveling for work it’s a completely different ballgame 🙂
And good luck for the upcoming travel plans too! Hope your kids manage this time around without depending too much on Mommy 😉

It is always amazing to read about people and their travels, not because they are en-joyful reads, they somehow happen to spread huge amounts of inspiration in one way or another for people who wish the same to happen at them. Looking forward to reading your tales! I am new here, but i get the sense i am bound to enjoy my time 🙂 – Cezane

Very happy for to you, I’m learning the value in positive thinking and chasing dreams, this is a wonderful example of the benefits. You may never do it again, but that trip is now a part of who you are.

I had just about given up hope on these dreams. But somehow, at the right time, things just all fell into place. I’ve been planning this trip with girls I have known for over 10 years and it never worked out. In the end I wound up traveling with women I met only in the latter half of 2015! A time for everything and everything in its time I suppose 🙂

Diya , I’m so happy for you . Its been my dream to go on a trip (be it local) with a gang of friends and it never comes to close to execution, so I can understand what you must feel about accomplishing with a solo and girl gang trip.
Me and my college friends once talked about doing a international trip ,and the discussion ended within hours as reality hit that we all are in different continents ,with family responsibilities 🙂
Take your time and share whenever you are ready .

I know you understand Mini :* Planning and executing a group trip is definitely a challenge. More so when you also have to plan for a solo trip tagged onto it! I’m so glad things worked out as well as they did. Someday soon I will actually sit down and capture my wayward thoughts 🙂

Thank you Vanny! I’m looking forward to having the posts up but am kind of dreading the actual writing itself, if that makes any sense. Somehow the memories seem too ethereal for me to be able to capture in words. I hope I can do justice to this trip 🙂

Perhaps writing them in a private journal would help you to capture the memories that you want to keep. It’s one thing to write for others, but we can say a lot more, I think, when we write for our future selves. 🙂

Very wise words Vanny! Maybe I should try writing for myself first and see if that gets the flow going… Hmmm… Thank you for that piece of advice! 🙂

Nothing opens your mind like a bit of international travelling…

I completely agree. While I have done a decent amount of traveling in the past, this was my first solo trip internationally (aside from visits to my home town which meh! just don’t count :P). I learnt a lot about myself and about the world on this one trip. What an experience! 🙂

I had the most amazing time! Writing about it simply wouldn’t do it justice but I must… if nothing else at least to keep the memories fresh 🙂

Thank you Vandana! Waiting to write about it but a part of me is actually dreading it. For now it remains an ethereal part of my memory. Writing about it somehow brings it into the realm of reality and tarnishes the dream that it was… Lol… that probably didn’t make any sense 🙂
