Glory and Shame – The Blogger Recognition Award

When I first started blogging I imagined I would have 10 followers at best (after having coerced my family into following, that is). Today I have surpassed that number several times over (without having to emotionally blackmail said family) and have not just one but three award nominations tucked securely under my belt. I must have done SOMETHING right!

Today’s post is the acceptance of my very first award nomination – The Blogger Recognition Award. Arti of Stochastic very kindly nominated me for this award. Unfortunately Arti is no longer actively blogging since life has pulled her in other directions. Either ways, thank you Arti for the nomination!

The shadow of shame that looms over me is because it has taken (gulp!) 2 months to put up my award acceptance post. I would have liked to insert here a totally justifiable reason for this delay. But I have none. Unless you count improving weather conditions as a reason. No longer are we being burnt to a crisp in the harsh desert summer. We all know it won’t last very long. And so I have been out and about making the most of the good weather. That’s probable cause enough, don’t you think?

But I’ve dilly-dallied long enough. So here are the rules of the Blogger Recognition Award.

a) Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.

One of my favorite things about blogging is its global coverage. I (do not!) prance around the room in utter delight on seeing WP report a hit from yet another country. Bienvenido! Willkomen! Aloha! Marhaba! Namaste! Salamat! to my worldwide readers! 😀

And the best part about such awards is that I get to return the favor and shine the spotlight on some truly deserving bloggers. Here we go in no particular order…

  1. Britta’s Banter
  2. Mini
  3. My least favorite child today
  4. Life Loofah
  5. Drab 2 Fabz
  6. The Gad About Town
  7. The Grey Tail
  8. Abidha Ayoob
  9. Gypsy Couple
  10. Just Most Girls
  11. The Captain’s Speech
  12. Suzie Speaks
  13. Storyshucker
  14. Sweet life in the sandpit
  15. An Expat Abroad

b) Write a post to show off your award

Check!

c) Give a brief story of how your blog started

I’ve already done a post on this here.

d) Give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers

Advice? Me? Well if you must, you must.

Be an active blogger – This does not just mean posting regularly (because, at least initially, your time between posts is inversely proportional to the hits your blog receives). Being active also means supporting other bloggers by visiting/commenting/liking their pages. Blogging is a give and take community. The more you give, the more you will receive.

Write for yourself – Write what brings you joy. If you’re writing to please others, your blog becomes just another day job you’re not getting paid for.

e) Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

Check!

f) Attach the award to the post

Ta-daaa!

g) Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.

Off to do that right now! Can’t wait to see the acceptances of all my nominees 🙂

Phew… That was long! I’m going to need some heavy duty refueling after all that work!

Stay tuned for the acceptance posts of the remaining awards! Until next time…

  1. You thought you were late in putting up this post then I should probably call myself ‘million minutes past the eleventh hour’ or something. But thank you for accepting my nomination 🙂 and I’m trying to get a hold of things and haul my ass back on WordPress!

    1. Hehe… As of now only 2 people in my family know about the blog. Will have to break the news someday soon though as I’m finding it hard to explain why I always have my nose buried in blogs. I blame it all on you bloggers out there who put up such fascinating posts 😀 😛

      1. Hahaha aww I know what you mean. My family knows about blogging but no one else does. So when I am at a party and no one my age to talk to, I am busy writing or reading posts as well and everyone has those questioning looks of who is this girl texting or why is she always on her phone?
